Creating a Fiverr account takes about five minutes. What you set up in that five minutes — particularly your username — has consequences that cannot easily be changed later. This guide covers the process and the decisions worth slowing down for.
Create your Fiverr account here
Step 1: Register
Go to fiverr.com and click "Join" or "Start Selling." You can register with:
Email address and password
Continue with Google
Continue with Apple
Continue with Facebook
Google sign-in is the fastest and most reliable method. If you have an existing Google account you want associated with your Fiverr presence, use it. The email address used for registration becomes your account's primary contact email and cannot be changed without a support request.
Step 2: Choose Your Username (This Is Permanent)
Your username is the most consequential decision in the account creation process. It becomes part of your permanent Fiverr profile URL — fiverr.com/username — and cannot be changed after it is set.
Choose a username that is:
Professional and memorable (your name, initials, or a clean brand handle)
Free of numbers, underscores, or placeholder-looking characters where possible
Suitable to share publicly in a professional context
Avoid usernames that look temporary, keyword-stuffed ("logodesigner247"), or difficult to remember or spell. Once set, you cannot correct a bad username decision without creating a new account and losing all history.
Step 3: Email Verification
Fiverr sends a verification email immediately after registration. Click the confirmation link. Your account is not fully active until verification is complete and you cannot publish gigs without it.
Check your spam folder if the email does not arrive within a few minutes.
Step 4: Complete Your Profile (Sellers)
After email verification, sellers should complete the seller onboarding process accessible from "Become a Seller" in the main navigation. This includes:
Watching the onboarding videos. Three short videos covering Fiverr's seller basics. You must watch them to progress. They cover mechanics you need to understand — take notes rather than clicking through.
Profile photo. Upload a clear, professional headshot. Fiverr crops this to a circle. See the profile picture guide for what works and how to take a good headshot without a photographer.
Professional description. Your seller bio — 600 characters. Lead with what you do for buyers, not who you are. The Fiverr profile guide covers what to write and what to avoid.
Languages. Indicate which languages you are proficient in. This affects how the Brief matching system routes buyer projects to you.
Skills. Add skills relevant to your service category. Fiverr allows up to 30 skills. Each skill is a potential matching point between the algorithm and buyer searches. Be specific ("Canva," "Adobe Illustrator," "WordPress") rather than generic ("design," "software").
Education and certification. Optional but useful for credibility, particularly for professional service categories. Add relevant qualifications.
Phone number verification. Required to publish gigs. Fiverr sends a verification code via SMS. Use a number you have reliable access to.
Step 5: Create Your First Gig
Once your profile is complete, you are ready to create gigs. Navigate to Selling → Gigs → Create a New Gig.
Before publishing your first gig, read the complete gig creation guide — particularly the URL trap section that explains why your first published title creates a permanent URL you cannot change later.
For Buyers: Creating a Buyer Account
The registration process is the same. Buyers do not need to complete seller onboarding. After email verification, you can immediately browse gigs and place orders.
For a first-time buyer, the Fiverr buyer guide covers how to find the right seller, write a useful brief, and manage the order process from search through delivery.
Account Security Before You Do Anything Else
Before publishing a gig or placing an order, enable two-factor authentication (2FA) through your account security settings. Fiverr accounts are targeted by credential-stuffing attacks, and an unsecured account is vulnerable. 2FA takes two minutes to set up and prevents the most common account compromise scenario.
The Fiverr account security checklist covers the full security setup for new seller accounts.
Fiverr's registration process and onboarding flow are subject to platform updates.
